Benilde-St. Margaret’s Volleyball Wins Epic Five-Set Match
The Benilde-St. Margaret’s volleyball team won an epic five-set thriller over Monticello in the state class AAA quarterfinals Wednesday night.
The Red Knights prevailed 23-25, 28-26, 30-32, 28-26, 15-10.
The match took several twists and turns throughout the night.
After trailing most of the way in set two, Benilde found its footing and pulled out a 28-26 win.
In the third, they trailed 23-14 before rallying to force extra points. Monticello bounced back to take the wild set 32-30.
In the fourth, BSM fought off a match point chance for the Magic before rallying to win again.
They pulled away in the fifth, scoring six of the last seven points to end the 2 1/2 hour marathon thriller.
UPDATE: The Red Knights swept Kasson-Mantorville in the semifinals Friday.
They will play Marshall for the class AAA title Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Xcel Center.
