Benilde-St. Margaret’s Eliminates Wayzata in Section 6AA Girls Hockey
The Benilde-St. Margaret’s girls hockey team eliminated Wayzata with a 4-2 win in the Section 6AA girls hockey semifinals Thursday.
Mary Zavoral scored on a rebound for BSM to give them a 1-0 lead after one period.
Olivia Reem tied the game early in the second for Wayzata, banking a wraparound from behind the net off Red Knights’ goalie Carly Greene and in.
Late in the second Benilde went ahead for good on a similar goal.
Wayzata goalie Annika Lavender couldn’t hang on to Anna Podein’s high shot, and Olivia Haag scored on a wraparound to make it 2-1.
Lucy Hanson and Emma Peschel scored in the third to make it 4-1 BSM.
Wayzata’s Sophia Bach pulled the Trojans within 4-2 with just over seven minutes remaining but that’s as close as they got.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s now faces top seed Edina in the section final Saturday at Braemar Arena in Edina.
