Benilde-St. Margaret’s Baseball Wins 1st State Title
The Benilde-St. Margaret’s baseball won its first state title in dramatic fashion, beating Mankato West 4-3 in eight innings in the class AAA title game.
Sam Monk singled off the leftfield wall at Target Field, scoring Tomas Lee from first base to score the winning run.
BSM scored a run in the second inning and two in the third to take a 3-2 lead before West rallied with two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie.
Caleb Koskie pitched the first 6 2/3 innings for the Red Knights, striking out 12.
Owen Omdahl pitched the final 1 and 2/3 innings to earn the win as BSM won its 24th game of the season and first state championship in four tournament appearances.
Koskie, Lee, Omdahl and and Dan Porisch were named to the all-tournament team.
