Benilde-St. Margaret’s Baseball Loses State Tournament Opener
The Benilde-St. Margaret’s baseball team lost its first game in the state Class AAA tournament Tuesday, falling 3-1 to Monticello.
After the Magic took a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch in the second inning, the Red Knights tied it on an RBI groundout by Elliot Huether in the top of the fifth inning.
But Monticello re-took the lead on a two-run double by Caden King in the bottom of the fifth.
Magic pitcher Cal Ulven pitched all seven innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five to earn the win.
BSM starting pitcher Caleb Koskie took the loss, although the junior struck out 10 over six innings.
The Red Knights won their first consolation game, beating Little Falls 11-3.
They lost 10-8 to St. Thomas Academy in the consolation championship.
