Armstrong-Cooper Girls Hockey Wins Section 6AA Opener
The Armstrong-Cooper girls hockey team edged Bloomington Jefferson 3-2 in the Section 6AA quarterfinals Saturday at New Hope Ice Arena.
The Wings scored the only goal of the first period as Abby Hanson scored on a rebound after a faceoff win for the Wings.
After Jefferson’s Jana Lesch tied the game early in the second, Lydia College scored on a powerplay to give Armstrong-Cooper a 2-1 lead through two periods.
Taylor Fruetel scored on a powerplay early in the third period to make it 3-1 Wings.
Jefferson scored to pull within 3-2 and made a strong push but Emma Kahl’s 44 saves helped Armstrong-Cooper hold on for the win despite being outshot 46-19.
The Wings now meet top seed Benilde-St. Margaret’s in the semifinals Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at Parade Ice Garden.
