Armstrong-Cooper Girls Hockey Beats Wayzata in Section 6AA Quarterfinals
The Armstrong-Cooper girls hockey team scored three powerplay goals on the way to a 5-3 win over Wayzata in the Section 6AA quarterfinals.
The game was tied 1-1 until late in the second period.
Armstrong-Cooper’s Cara Cook banked a shot off a defender and in for a powerplay goal with 1:05 left in the period.
Wayzata was called for another penalty and 19 second later Ruby Monogue buried a rebound for another powerplay goal to make it 3-1.
Abby Hanson scored on a rebound for another powerplay marker in the third to make it 4-1.
Katherine Ness gave Wayzata hope with a goal with 7:27 remaining in the third to pull the Trojans within 4-2.
Cook hit an empty net to push the Wings’ lead back to three goals late in the game before Sam Mathe scored in the last minute for Wayzata to make it 5-3.
Fifth seed Armstrong-Cooper advances to the semifinals to face top seed Blake Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at Parade Ice Garden in Minneapolis.
