Armstrong-Cooper girls fall in holiday opener
Since before the current Armstrong-Cooper players were born, New Hope Arena has been the site of a holiday girls hockey tournament in late December. The 2017 edition of the tournament started Thursday. The tournament is back to a full field of eight teams. Host Armstrong-Cooper played well at times in their quarterfinal game against Willmar but a season-long problem scoring goals continued as the Wings lost 1-0. Willmar’s Madison Garberding scored the only goal of the game in the final minute of the second period. In addition to Willmar, Fergus Falls, Prior Lake, and Princeton/Big Lake/Becker won quarterfinal games. The tournament continues Friday and Saturday in New Hope.
