With No Classes, Oakwood Elementary Construction Progressing Faster
School may not be in session at Oakwood Elementary in Plymouth, but there is still plenty of activity happening on the campus.
Construction is underway at the site for the new Wayzata Early Learning School. The new, two-story addition will house programs such as preschool, early childhood family education, early childhood special education and early childhood screening.
Meanwhile, Oakwood Elementary will get some improvements as well. Crews are building a second gymnasium, a new playground, a new art room and an expanded parent drop-off area.
When Governor Walz made the decision to close schools for the rest of the year, that gave construction crews the green light to begin work on a few things earlier than expected. That includes:
- Utility shutdowns for tie-ins to the existing building (electrical, water, heating & cooling)
- Site utility work that impacted existing parking lots
- Physical building connections to the new addition areas
Wayzata School District officials say construction is on-schedule for both the Early Learning School and Oakwood Elementary. Work should be complete in August of 2020.
