Who Can Collect the Most Coats? Police Departments Compete
The Crystal, Osseo, New Hope and Robbinsdale police departments competed against six other departments to see who could collect the most coats in a coat drive organized by local resident Todd Vreeland.
“People have just gone extra overboard to help this coat drive out,” said Vreeland.
Vreeland started the Justin Morneau Winter Coat Drive five years ago at Standard Water Control Systems in Crystal.
Now, he helps to organize the coat drive with 10 police departments.
“If we can get some coats to people who need help, it’s a good thing,” said Osseo police officer Anthony Martinson.
“It’s a collaborative effort between all these cities as you see. We literally get hundreds and hundreds of jackets for people who need them,” said New Hope police officer Brad Kallio.
The departments collected more than 2,000 coats. Mounds View police won a trophy prize for collecting the most. The trophy is an encased Justin Morneau signed bat.
