Wheels of Italy Car Show To Roll Into Downtown Robbinsdale
Fans of Italian cars will be treated to a new event in downtown Robbinsdale later this month.
“Wheels of Italy,” an Italian car show featuring both vintage and new vehicles, is planned for Sunday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The show will happen along West Broadway between 41st and 42nd avenues. Organizers expect about 2,000 people throughout the day.
“There’s so much excitement,” said Daniel Schaefer, one of the event organizers, speaking to the Robbinsdale City Council. “Some of the businesses that are normally closed on Sundays want to be open.”
The Robbinsdale City Council approved an application for the event at its meeting this week.
Previous shows have been held over the years at Lake Bde Maka Ska in Minneapolis as well as in downtown St. Paul.
The organizers, who both live in the west metro, thought Robbinsdale would make a great spot because of its available parking.
“I’ve been in Robbinsdale for 30 years, and I’m like ‘this is a cool downtown, a lot of cool places, why not have it here?'” said Phill Slavik with Wheels of Italy.
The event is free to the public. Ferrari and Lamborghini vehicles are expected to be there, as well as Italian motorcycles.
Shaefer said Travail Kitchen & Amusements plans to put together an Italian buffet for people making their way to downtown Robbinsdale.
“It’s a very family-oriented event,” said Schaefer.
