What is Juneteenth?
Many cities in our area held Juneteenth celebrations for the first time.
Marcellus Davis, Racial Equity Diversity & Inclusion Manager in Brooklyn Park, explains the meaning and feeling behind Juneteenth celebrations.
“It is the day that is the truest form of freedom in America, and for all, not just for some,” said Davis.
Davis helped organize Brooklyn Park’s Juneteenth celebration.
“I want to make sure children 8 to 3, 11 to 15, or adults who might not know about this history, that it is American history through the black experience,” said Davis. “Be educated about Freedom Day aka Juneteenth and why we celebrate.”
