Weekend Showcase: Stages Opens ‘Once on This Island, Jr.’
Stages Theatre Company is bringing “Once on This Island, Jr.” to the stage for a short run from March 3-19.
The 60-minute show is adapted from the Tony-nominated Broadway musical of the same name.
“It’s a beautiful story,” said Aniya Hollie, a student from Osseo Senior High who has the leading role of “Ti Moune.” “We watch her grow up from a little girl and then she slowly reaches adulthood. Through the story we see her deal with challenges. She lives on an island where it’s divided between poor and rich so breaking societal norms is what we see her try to do.”
The show is recommended for people over the age of 7. Besides the music, dancing and story, the actors say there’s also a lesson to take home too.
“Learn how to accept being different. Learn that even if you are different, you can still be yourself,” said Kyla-Ashlee Plair, an actor in the show.
Plair also adds that she loves the music in the show.
The show runs from March 3-19 at Stages Theatre Company.
