Wayzata Grad Named Rhodes Scholar
A 2021 graduate of Wayzata High School has received a prestigious honor.
Cadet Sarah Cao, a senior at the United States Military Academy at West Point, is one of 32 U.S. recipients of the Rhodes Scholarship.
Rhodes scholars are selected from a pool of candidates nominated by their colleges and universities. Each recipient will go on to study at the University of Oxford in England the following October.
Cao is double majoring in international affairs and Chinese with a minor in terrorism studies.
Cao told the Wayzata Public Schools’ communication team that Wayzata High School helped provide a strong foundation.
“WHS teachers always challenged me to think critically, work hard, and approach problems from different angles,” Cao said. “From my time on the swim and dive team to student council, each experience was a new opportunity to develop leadership and work through challenges. These lessons have been invaluable, guiding me from Wayzata to West Point and beyond.”
Cao is the only recipient from Minnesota in this year’s class.
