Update: City Leaders Respond to Osseo Water Rate Concerns
In response to concerns from residents over the price of Osseo water, City Administrator Riley Grams says the city is undertaking a comprehensive utility rate study to develop a new rate structure that the city believes will be “fair and equitable” for all property owners.
Full Statement:
The City of Osseo is currently undertaking a comprehensive utility rate study to develop a new rate structure. During our Jan 30 utility rate Council work session, our public financing consultant provided some inaccurate information regarding the City’s agreement for purchasing water from our neighbors in Maple Grove. While this is a complex issue, we are continuing to work through the utility rate study to develop a fair and equitable rate structure for all Osseo property owners.
In a city council work session last week, consultants suggested that Osseo is overpaying Maple Grove for water, but have since backtracked on that claim. CCX News reported on the meeting and concerns from residents in this story.
Rates provided by Maple Grove City Administrator Heidi Nelson says the city of Maple Grove charges Osseo $1.98 per 1,000 gallons and Osseo charges residents $5 per 1,000 gallons. Maple Grove sold Osseo 100 million gallons last year.
