The Crown Fits Two Generations: A Royal Mother-Daughter Legacy
For the past nine years, Amy Adams has provided people with a respite from everyday life. She’s the owner of The Woodhouse Day Spa, located in Maple Grove’s The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes.
“Maple Grove was our first location in Minnesota,” said Adams. “So this holds a big place in my heart. This community has just been wonderful to our business and been so supportive of us. We love to provide a little escape for our guests.”
Business owner is just one of many titles Adams holds.
Thirty-one years ago, she held a title that comes with a crown and sash.
“I was a Miss North Dakota USA back in 1994, and it was a really great time in my life, and a time in my life that I really look back to fondly,” said Adams.

In 1994, Amy Adams was Amy Jane Lantz. That year, she was crowned as Miss North Dakota USA.
Now, several decades later, her 17-year-old daughter, Maise, has a crown and sash to call her own.
This summer, she earned the title of Miss Minnesota Teen USA.
“It had always been one of my goals since I was 11,” said Maise. “And so, it felt very full circle, that’s the best way I could describe it.”
Maise’s platform is ‘Compassion in Action: A Movement Not a Moment,’ which emphasizes the importance of kindness in everyday life.
It’s something she displays through her involvement with the nonprofit Best Buddies.
“That’s really the whole mission of Best Buddies, is to provide friendship and professional development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and so that’s always just been really important to me,” said Maise.
Best Buddies helped Maise develop a special relationship with Mikayla Holmgren, the first woman with Down syndrome to compete in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant.
Holmgren had quite the reaction when Maise earned her crown:

Meanwhile, preparation is now underway to help Maise prepare for the national stage.
It certainly helps that she has a former title-holder guiding her every step of the way.
“I’m just feel so grateful that I’m at a point in my life where we get to do this kind of together,” said Adams. “It’s been a really, really fun adventure.”
The Miss Teen USA national competition takes place Oct. 18-24 in Reno, Nevada.
