The Café Meow Opens in New Hope
The Café Meow opened this week in New Hope in the strip mall near Winnetka and 36th avenues. It’s the same strip mall where Fat Nats, Frankie’s and Bruegger’s Bagels are located.
Owner Jessica Burge chose the northwest suburbs as the place to open her second location because a lot of her current customers are from the Twin Cities northwest suburbs. Like her other location in Minneapolis, all cats inside the café roam free and are available to adopt.
Burge is passionate about cat adoption and opened the New Hope store on her birthday.
“This is the best gift I could’ve given myself and hopefully someone else, to give back to these rescues, to get those cats adopted and into homes. That’s always been my goal,” said Burge.
People have been lined up to check out the novelty.
“This is the perfect place for someone who is very interested in getting a cat because it’s different than a shelter environment because the cats are free roaming,” said Meghan Hayes, who visited the cafe on opening day.
“I figured it would be a cool place to come and hang out with kitties, but also get something at the cafe,” said Jessica Grenwis, another visitor. “We already have a cat so we’re not in the market to adopt but we come to check some out and also recommend it to other people.”
The New Hope location of The Café Meow is currently fostering 24 cats.
