Teenage Girl Stabbed Near Sandburg Middle School
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a stabbing that occurred shortly before noon Thursday in a cul-de-sac next to Sandburg Middle School in Golden Valley. According to a sheriff spokesperson, a 15-year-old girl was arrested following the stabbing of a 17-year-old girl.
The injuries to the 17-year-old girl are not life threatening, said sheriff spokesperson Kelsey Demmert.
The two girls were students of Robbinsdale Academy-Highview, an alternative high school which shares a building with Sandburg Middle School. Robbinsdale School District officials say Highview was placed into lockdown for about 15 minutes and “at no time was there a threat to Sandburg.”
“Deputies learned an altercation began in the school which ultimately led to the stabbing off school property,” said the sheriff spokesperson.
According to the sheriff’s office, a knife was located on the suspect.
The 15-year-old female suspect was arrested and transported to the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center. Hennepin County deputies are requesting charges of second-degree assault, the sheriff spokesperson said.
