Suspects Charged in Golf Club Beating in Downtown Robbinsdale
Two people have been charged with felony assault after a man was struck multiple times with a golf club in downtown Robbinsdale last week.
The incident happened following an apparent road rage incident that preceded the assault on Monday, March 23, shortly before 6:30 p.m.
Patience Jentzen, 31, of Fridley, and Clarence Lyons, 37, of Minneapolis are both charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. Jentzen is also charged with first-degree aggravated robbery.
According to the criminal complaint:
Police responded to a report of an assault near the intersection of 41st and West Broadway avenues. Officers noticed a man bleeding from his head with blood on his hands and face. A large number of people had also gathered in the area, the complaint said.
The man who was bleeding told police he was driving down West Broadway when two vehicles in front of him appeared to engage in a road rage incident that stopped traffic. He had exited his vehicle and attempted to intervene, the complaint said. That’s when another man from the front-most vehicle attacked the victim with a golf club, striking him in the head.
The victim and the alleged suspect, Lyons, then began to fight for a brief amount of time before Lyons and Jentzen fled the scene, the complaint stated.
Surveillance video showed both suspects in a brown sedan speeding past a red car before slamming on the brakes, bringing both vehicles to a stop. The victim, who was in a third vehicle stopped behind the red car, got out and began to argue with the suspects. While the argument continued, the red car drove away, and Lyons allegedly returned to the brown sedan to retrieve the golf club.
The complaint said that as the victim returned to his car, he was allegedly struck by Lyons with the golf club. A fight ensued and Jentzen was seen taking what appeared to be the victim’s keys before also hitting the victim with the golf club, the charging documents stated. The assault was eventually broken up and the suspects drove off.

Both Lyons and Jentzen were eventually located and arrested by Coon Rapids police two days after the alleged assault. While under arrest, the suspects were heard uttering, “He got what he deserved,” the complaint said.
Each suspect posted bail with conditions. They’re scheduled to make court appearances next month.
