Suspected Castor Beans Recovered After Brooklyn Park High-Risk Warrant Served
A high-risk search warrant served in a Brooklyn Park residential neighborhood Thursday morning led to a man’s arrest and the recovery of a potentially deadly hazardous substance.
The Brooklyn Park Police SWAT team initially responded at about 5:30 a.m. Thursday to a home in the 6400 block of Zealand Ave. N. Law enforcement were called to serve a warrant for an ongoing domestic violence investigation.
During the investigation, police learned the suspect may have castor beans, which contain ricin, a deadly poison.
Law enforcement arrested the 54-year-old Brooklyn Park man without incident. Three juveniles were also safely detained at the home, police said.
Hazmat personnel with the FBI and the Minnesota National Guard were called in to secure the property.
Brooklyn Park police told CCX News that suspected castor beans were indeed found, but stated in a press release the “hazmat situation has been contained and is under control.”
The 54-year-old suspect was arrested for probable cause attempted murder. CCX News generally does not release the names of suspects until they have been formally charged.
The suspect is currently being held at the Hennepin County jail without bail.
