Summer Vacation Site Booked? Consider a ‘Midweek Staycation’
Summer vacation sites are booking up fast. If you already missed out on your preferred destination, there’s an option you may not have thought about. It’s what the Three Rivers Park District calls a “midweek staycation.”
“You could drive three hours to get to Brainerd. Or you could drive 20 minutes west of the cities and hit Baker campground and feel like you’re up North,” said Bri Koch, facility supervisor with the Three Rivers Park District.
Camping sites like Baker Park Reserve are largely booked through the summer on weekends. That’s especially the case for sites with electrical service, Koch said. For availability, you can check the ThreeRiversParks.org website.
However, if you can adjust your schedule, Koch said weekdays are a good option at Baker Park Reserve with fewer people and just as much to do.
“We have both north and south beach available. There’s a play area you can play on. Tons of hiking and biking trails. We do bike rentals in the campground office daily from 10 to 6. So there’s plenty to do, even if you’re out here in the middle of the week,” said Koch.
Baker Park Reserve also offers boat rentals on Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 6 p.m.
