Standout Student: Maranatha Christian Academy’s Owen Marvel
This week’s standout student is a high-flying achiever. Maranatha Christian Academy Senior Owen Marvel isn’t afraid to challenge himself, and he’s a leader inside and outside school.
Owen Marvel is president of both the National Honor Society and Student Council. The student has a 4.3 GPA and says that while schoolwork is essential, it’s also crucial to make time for people who are important in your life.
“It’s important for me to enjoy the things that I’m doing so whether that’s school or extracurricular, but also finding time to hang out with my friends,” said Owen Marvel.
Standout Students Says Prioritizing Is Key To Success At School
“It’s definitely been tricky, but it’s come down to really learning how to manage my time between my extracurricular and all the homework I have to try to create a balanced schedule,” he said.
The standout student also has an artistic side. He’s in the jazz band and plays the French horn and trumpet. He says music is a creative outlet and allows him to relax.
Marvel is climbing to new heights, literally. In the past five years, he’s hiked nearly the entire 300 plus mile superior hiking trail. The adventurous teen plans to finish the last 24 miles in the spring.
“it’s definitely probably the most difficult trail that we have in Minnesota,” said Marvel. “There’s a lot of hills, and there’s a lot of different rocks, tree roots. It’s not like a flat paved ground like you’d see anywhere else, and it’s a one of a kind.”
The senior hasn’t decided which college to attend, but he plans to own his own business one day.
“I’ve enjoyed the business classes that I’ve taken, and that’s something that I’m passionate about,” explained the standout student.
