Standout Student: Cooper’s Laura Beaner
Teachers say senior Laura Beaner is a good student, a great athlete and a role model at Cooper High School. Beaner participates in Nordic skiing, softball and volleyball, plus takes challenging classes and maintains a high GPA.
“I’m a very positive person,” says Laura. “I think it shows. I don’t let all the schoolwork or all the things I’m doing bring me down because I really love doing all of them. It makes me who I am.”
Laura’s high school activities list is impressive. Not only does she participate in different sports and academic programs, but she stands out in her performance and dedication to them. She maintains a high grade point average and takes challenging international baccalaureate courses. She’s a three-sport athlete and captain of two of those sports.
“She takes winning just the same as she does losing,” says John Oelfke, activities director. “She leads by example.”
Laura particularly stands out on the softball field, where she lettered as a seventh grader. She’s been the number one pitcher for the last few years.
Beaner Helps Younger Students
Soon Laura will be taking her leadership skills to the School of Engineering and Arts in Golden Valley to participate in a unique program there. High School students help teach science lessons to the younger students.
“She’s definitely a role model,” says Oelfke.
Laura leads by example and plans to keep excelling in high school just like she has all along.
“I think that I’m just well-rounded kid,” says Laura. “Cooper allows me to do everything and have fun while doing it and I think that’s what I’m going to remember the most.”
