Standoff in New Hope Ends After 18 Hours
A man’s standoff with police in New Hope ended Tuesday evening without further incident. It started at about 8 p.m. Monday with a reported domestic dispute. A woman told police her boyfriend was threatening her and her two children, possibly with a weapon.
Arriving officers found the woman outside the home, but the man and the children were still inside. Neighbors were briefly evacuated, but were allowed back in their homes due to approaching storms. The man remained in the home throughout the night and most of the next day while officers tried to convince him to come out.
After a long standoff with negotiators and SWAT teams, the man finally surrendered around 2:20pm. Police did find a shotgun and other weapons at the scene, but don’t know what role if any they played in the incident.
No one was injured and the children have been reunited with their mother. The suspect was taken to the hospital for evaluation. At press time there was no word of charges or what caused the conflict.
