Spoonheim, Nelson and Aldrich Elected to Plymouth City Council
Voters in the city of Plymouth elected three candidates to the city council to serve four-year-terms.
Joel Spoonheim will represent the entire city as an at-large candidate. Spoonheim received 50.7 percent of the vote and 17,042 total votes. Challengers Kraig Urquhart and Armetha Pihlstrom finished with 29.41 percent (9,894 votes) and 19.2 percent (6,469 votes) respectively.
Spoonheim has served on the city of Plymouth’s Housing & Redevelopment Authority and the city’s Environmental Quality Committee. He has previously worked as the economic development director for the city of Brooklyn Park. Spoonheim currently works as a senior director of worksite health and population well-being at HealthPartners.
Nelson wins in Ward 1, Aldrich in Ward 3
In Ward 1, which serves the fast-growing area of northwest Plymouth, Kim Nelson defeated Shine Mahi. Nelson had 55.4 percent of the vote and 5,054 votes, while Mahi had 44.1 percent and 4,026 votes.
Nelson works as the deputy government affairs director for the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters.
Scott Aldrich, meanwhile, won in Ward 3, which includes the southeast part of the city.
Aldrich had 43.5 percent of the vote and 3,254 total votes. Aldrich finished ahead of Catherine Cesnik (36.3 percent and 2,715 votes) and Julie Ritz-Schlaifer (15.0 percent and 1,118 votes).
According to his bio, Aldrich works at M.A. Mortenson Construction and has experience as a small business owner.
Both Nelson and Cesnik were appointed to the city council to fill vacant seats earlier this year.
