Speeding Driver Who Ran Red Light Sentenced in Fatal Plymouth Crash
Nearly a year after a speeding driver ran a red light while high, crashing into and killing 68-year-old Catherine Caron of Plymouth, Caron’s family learned the driver’s sentence.
Hennepin County District Court Judge William Koch sentenced David Boll, 50, of St. Louis Park, on Friday to six and a half years, a term called for by sentencing guidelines. Four and a half of those years must be served in prison with the remaining time served on supervised release.
Prosecutors say Boll was speeding and had used marijuana when he ran a red light at the intersection of Highway 55 and Industrial Park Boulevard, causing the fatal crash on Sept. 12, 2023.
Boll pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular homicide. Court documents show Boll was driving at least 71 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone on eastbound Hwy. 55 when he entered the intersection.
The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office said it sought a sentence of seven and three-quarters years due to Boll’s driving record.
“Our thoughts today are with Catherine Caron’s family as they endure another of many difficult days,” said Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty in a statement. “Mr. Boll drove in a grossly negligent manner and caused an unimaginable loss to the victim’s family. A significant sentence is necessary to sufficiently protect the community.”
Caron was a retired nurse. Her obituary said she left behind a husband and two children.
