Special donation made to Osseo Water Tower preservation effort
A group from North Carolina donated to help preserve the Osseo Water Tower after efforts to save their own water tower were unsuccessful. They found the Osseo Water Tower through social media.
“This donation underscores the power of social media and support of historical preservation,” says Kathleen Gette, one of the volunteers who has fought for the Osseo Water Tower to gain historic status.
This summer construction crews dismantled the water tower in Mt. Gilead, North Carolina. The group made a $450 donation to the Save the Osseo Water Tower fund. The donation will be formally accepted at the next Osseo City Council meeting.
What’s next for the Osseo Water Tower?
The tower is officially on the National Register of Historic Places. The next step is to begin working to gain funds to repaint and repair the tower. Kathleen Gette says the next step is to assess the tower’s condition and begin applying for grants.
