Two Robbinsdale District Schools Temporarily Shift to Distance Learning Starting Jan. 6
Robbinsdale Area Schools informed parents by email on Tuesday afternoon that two schools would be temporarily shifting to distance learning because of the high number of COVID-19 cases among staff and students.
The letter reads, “we hoped we could continue with school as usual, but that won’t be the case for two of our buildings. Due to the current number of positive and symptomatic COVID cases among students and staff at Armstrong High School and Sandburg Middle School, we made the decision today to shift to distance learning beginning Thursday, Jan. 6 through Monday, Jan. 17.”
“I think that will be great for a while, until they figure things out,” said Ubah Hassen, a Sandburg parent. “But I hope they will be back [to] normal learning. ‘Cause first of all, they’re going to be off a week, and second they will miss their friends.”
Students at Armstrong and Sandburg will return to in-person learning on Tuesday, Jan. 18.
“Well I’m a little disappointed,” said Robert Hoffmann, as he waited to pick up his grandchildren from Sandburg Wednesday afternoon. “I think the kids should be here, you know, at school. But I also understand the situation. So I don’t think this second COVID is going to be as bad as the first.”
District officials also say at this time that they have no plans to shift the entire district to distance learning.
The email said, “we understand there is anxiety as COVID cases in the community continue to rise. However, at this time we have no plans to move our entire district to distance learning.”
Robbinsdale schools says they will continue to monitor the situation and will adjust learning models as needed. They urge students and staff to complete self-screening before coming to school.
