Solar Panels To Cut City of Robbinsdale’s Electrical Bill
A multi-year solar project aims to help the city of Robbinsdale cut down its electric bill.
More than 90 solar panels have been installed on the roof of Robbinsdale City Hall.
A state grant and federal tax credit are helping to cover the costs for the installation.
They will start producing electricity early this summer when they are connected to larger electrical grid.

More than 90 solar panels have been installed at Robbinsdale City Hall.
Kayla Kirtz, Robbinsdale sustainability coordinator, says they will produce about 60 percent of the power used at city hall.
“The project is essentially going to be paying for itself after just under two years, which is really awesome,” Kirtz said. “That’s a really, really short return on investment. A lot shorter than most solar projects because they’re a pretty big up-front cost.”
According to Kirtz, officials are considering installing solar installations on other city-owned buildings as they’re updated.
“Being able to harness the power of the sun to limit this building’s energy footprint was just one small thing that we could do as a city, but it will have a really powerful impact on our great emissions as a whole,” Kirtz added.
