Maple Grove Senior Housing Apartments Shifts Expansion Plan
The Maple Grove City Council signed off on a senior living complex expansion that inspired quite a few citizens to voice their concerns over several meetings.
A developer proposed a 75-unit expansion of the SilverCreek on Main, located at the corner of Main Street and Weaver Lake Road.
However, future tenants of a neighboring complex under construction continued to express concerns. Tenants of the Applewood Pointe senior living complex say the SilverCreek expansion gets too close to their development. They called it “bad planning.”
“We’re taking the brunt of all of this,” said Richard Martens, a future Applewood Pointe resident. “We’re being squeezed and really the net effect, I don’t mean this personally disparaging, but it’s adding insult to injury.”
Martens and several future residents have spoken out against the project at other city meetings.
The two groups held meetings and collaborated with city staff. The city council approved an updated plan for SilverCreek on Main. Instead of only a 57-foot setback, there will be an 82 foot setback. SilverCreek will also add more substantial landscaping to create a buffer between the two properties.
City council members said they appreciated the willingness of the two groups to work together.
