Semiconductor Company Eyes Plymouth for New Testing Hub
A company with German roots is eyeing Plymouth for its first U.S. facility.
Alter Technology U.S., a subsidiary of Germany-based TÜV Nord Group, specializes in testing for high-reliability semiconductors, which must withstand extreme temperatures for long periods of time. The company is seeking state job funds to create a state-of-the-art testing hub in Plymouth.
The company asked the city of Plymouth to submit applications to the Minnesota Investment Fund and Job Creation Fund programs.
According to city documents, Alter Technology is considering leasing space at 15301 Highway 55. Locations in California, Texas and Arizona are also in the running for the testing hub, the documents showed.
If Plymouth is chosen, the company is expected to create around 16 new high-paying jobs over the next three years. Alter Technology would also invest approximately $4.5 million in renovations and equipment, including building a new clean room.
The proposed facility would initially focus on testing for high-reliability semiconductors in demand by the aerospace, defense and medical industries.
The Plymouth City Council is scheduled to vote on the Alter Technology application at its Jan. 28 meeting.
