Robbinsdale Salon Collecting Prom Dresses for a Good Cause
A Robbinsdale salon is helping collect prom dress donations to give away to Twin Cities teenagers.
Salon Halo is partnering with Project Fairy Godmothers to connect girls with gowns.
Owner Amanda Kist said her salon is the perfect place to collect dresses, because prom is where beauty and fashion meet.
“It’s many girls’ dreams to go to prom and have that lovely experience” she said. “Getting the hair done, and the nails and the dress, and really showcasing it. If you’re feeling really good on the inside and on the outside, it’s a magical thing that comes together for these young ladies.”

A small rack of dresses stands in Salon Halo. Owner Amanda Kist said there’s plenty of room for more.
Salon Halo is taking dresses through March 17, St. Patrick’s Day. Kist said they will take on-trend dresses that are well taken care of, preferably from the last ten years.
People can drop dresses off at Salon Halo at 4101 West Broadway. Those dresses will be cleaned, and then put out on the floor in St. Paul for the dress giveaway. The giveaway takes place on April 5 and 6.
Kist said Salon Halo will be part of it, helping girls try out makeup and hairstyle ideas for prom. Staff helped out the year before as well.
“Last year was a wonderful experience because we were in the middle of it,” Kist said. “To see a big gymnasium full of gowns, and these ladies coming in having the best time.”
Dresses also can be dropped off at St. Croix Cleaners. Girls can sign up for a Project Fairy Godmothers time slot on the organization’s website. It’ll be at the Summit University Teen Center in St. Paul.
