Robbinsdale Police Warn About New Spins on Old Scams
Robbinsdale Police are telling people to think twice if an offer seems too good to be true. Officer Casey Landherr says familiar scams, like a scam targeting grandparents, are resurfacing, but this time they have a COVID-19 angle.
“We’ve actually had a little bit of a shift. I would say it’s a national and a local thing,” said Officer Landherr. “You are taking old scams that we’ve seen over the years, putting a twist on it, using COVID-19 and trying to induce fear with that basis.”
Officer Landherr usually gives presentations to Rotary Clubs or civic groups, warning them about these kinds of scams. However, meetings have been postponed because of the novel coronavirus.
So the best way to get out information is through social media.
Landherr posted his powerpoint demonstration on the city’ of Robbinsdale’s Facebook page.
