Robbinsdale Police Respond To Domestic Incident, Weapons Located
A domestic incident in Robbinsdale drew a significant police response Monday night resulting in a shelter-in-place alert sent out to all of Hennepin County by accident.
Police responded to the 3600 block of West Broadway Avenue at 6:45 p.m. Monday on a report of a “possible armed domestic situation.”
Officers arrived and a shelter-in-place notification was sent out by the Hennepin County Communications Division shortly after 7:30 p.m., which police say is standard procedure. The alert was intended only for residences on the 3600 to 3700 blocks of Hubbard and West Broadway avenues. However, the notification mistakenly went out to residences countywide.
During the response Robbinsdale police said they located three people “likely involved” in the incident. All of them were detained. Weapons were also found, police said.
The shelter-in-place notification for the impacted Robbinsdale residents lasted until just after 10:30 p.m.
Police said the people involved appear to have “very minor injuries.”
It’s unclear what precisely led up to the police call. As of midday Tuesday, the investigation was ongoing.
‘Human Error’ To Blame for Accidental Countywide Alert
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office provided an update to the unintended countywide alert on Tuesday.
County officials said in a news release that “human error” contributed to the countywide notification and that the alert was sent out via the wrong notification system. Officials added that a potential software fix would make that type of error less likely.
The inadvertent alert aired on most broadcast stations in the Twin Cities metropolitan region.
A shelter in place warning was erroneously issued on Monday night beyond its intended area of the 3600-3700 block of Hubbard & West Broadway in Robbinsdale. For full details, please visit the link below.https://t.co/dNrDakfCiM
