Robbinsdale police are investigating the city’s first homicide of the year that involved a Hastings man who was found shot and killed in a crashed car.
Police responded shortly after 5 p.m. Monday on a report of shots fired near the area of Lowry and Indiana avenues. While on their way, police also learned of a car accident nearby.
Officers arrived and located a car by itself that had crashed. Police then located a man in the driver seat who had suffered a gunshot wound.
Police immediately tried life-saving aid on the man, who was rushed to North Memorial Health Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office identified the man as Treyvon Molette, 22, of Hastings. The examiner said Molette died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
Robbinsdale police say they worked to collect evidence with Hennepin County crime scene investigators.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that this is not a random crime and there is not any known threat to public safety,” said Capt. John Elder in a statement to CCX News.
A motive for the crime is unknown. No arrests have been made as of Tuesday afternoon, but Elder said police were pursuing “several leads.”
