Robbinsdale Police Help Jumpstart Winter Coat Drive
Area police departments are collaborating on a coat drive to help keep our neighbors warm.
The annual Justin Morneau Winter Warm-Up Coat Drive is underway and runs through Nov. 30. Participating departments are accepting new and gently-used coats in any size.
Robbinsdale is one of the participating departments. Capt. John Elder said as temperatures drop, the need for coats become great.
“So vast, absolutely,” Elder said. “Quite often, we will receive calls for people who are outside and not dressed for the weather.”
If you have coats to donate, Elder said they can be dropped off at your local police department. In the past, participating agencies in the northwest metro included Robbinsdale, Crystal, Osseo, Maple Grove and New Hope police departments.
In 2022, the drive collected 2,600 coats. The drive is also a friendly competition for those local departments. Last year, Rogers Police Department took the traveling trophy for most donations.
If you have any questions about the drive, Robbinsdale police ask you to call 763-219-7134.
