Robbinsdale Police and Fire Plan Big Open House
After a few years on hiatus, the street dance will once again be a part of the annual open house event. This year Wicked Wort Brewing Co. is getting in on the party too.
“It’s our favorite time of the year.”
Robbinsdale Police and Fire Departments will roll up their doors and show off the equipment and interiors of the police and fire station on Saturday. Besides explaining more about what they do, police and firefighters hope people can walk away learning a little something too.
“We’ll be doing live fires, replicating a burning house as well as a Christmas tree fire,” explained Kevin Byrnes with the Robbinsdale Fire Department. “If we can reach the public and show them what to do when the problem arises, then we’ve done a better job than just showing up when the problem started.”
The event is a way the departments built trust with the community.
“Anytime we are able to take that extra effort to have positive interactions with the community and get to know people one on one is very important for the police department,” says Casey Landherr with the Robbinsdale Police Department.
The Open House will be on Saturday, August 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Some events include antique fire truck rides, children’s bounce house, live room and content fire demonstrations, kitchen fire simulator, live vehicle extrication demonstrations and other events.
The street dance is back
There’s much excitement over bringing the street dance back, which has been absent for a decade. The dance will begin at noon in downtown Robbinsdale and continue until midnight.
“Everybody seems pretty psyched that the street dance is back,” explains Amanda Carlyle, manager at Wicked Wort Brewing Co.
Wicked Wort Brewing Co. is getting in on the party too. The brewery is donating a dollar for every sale of their most popular summer beer, the Birdtown Blonde, to the Fire Relief Association.
The Robbinsdale Street Dance will be in the Wicked Wort Parking lot. There will be live music from three bands, plus water games and face painting.
