Robbinsdale Man Sentenced to 40 Years in Crystal Woman’s Murder
A Robbinsdale man received a 40-year sentence for fatally shooting a Crystal woman, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.
Erik Eggleston fatally shot 29-year-old Nigar Mammadzada at her Crystal home in November 2020. He pleaded guilty two weeks ago to second-degree murder.
The sentence handed down by Judge William Koch is an upward departure from state guidelines, which range from 21¾ to roughly 30 years. Eggleston, 40, is expected to serve more than 25 years in prison and the balance on supervised release.
According to the criminal complaint:
Mammadzada had dropped off her infant daughter with a babysitter, then took her mother to her job, before returning home to work. Later that afternoon, her mother returned to the home on the 3500 block of Welcome Avenue where she found her daughter’s body. Mammadzada had died of two gunshot wounds.
Police later learned Eggleston had been at the home the night before to spend time with the former couple’s child. The victim’s mother told police that her daughter and Eggleston had recently broken up.
