Robbinsdale Community Gardens Back By Popular Demand
Robbinsdale will once again have a community garden; this time it will be located at the old Bunny Store site at Lake Drive and Chowen Avenue.
“It’s a centrally located area. It’s in a neighborhood with parks nearby and it’s not going to be used for anything, so why not put a community garden here,” said Ryan Parks, Robbinsdale recreation services manager. “The biggest reason was to provide accessible space for people who want to grow healthy foods.”
The city hasn’t had a community garden since 2019 but kept getting requests for one.
“We haven’t had a community garden in a couple of years. The last location was underwater most of the time, so it was time to move on from that,” said Parks.
The old garden was on Halifax Avenue.
The plots are already full this year with a waiting list. The plots will be raised beds, so they can be moved to another location if necessary.
Parks says he hopes to have all of the raised beds ready for planting by mid to late May.
