Rice Lake Elementary School Addition Complete
Staff and students are enjoying more elbow room at Rice Lake Elementary after a recent addition added nearly 12,000 square feet to the Maple Grove school in an effort to ease overcrowding.
“We needed the space. A few of us didn’t have any windows. We didn’t have any room for students to group up,” explained Logan Moe, a fifth-grade teacher. “So now we have more space than we need and I have groups out here every day.”

The addition accommodates Rice Lake Elementary School’s high enrollment. It added six classrooms and community space for students to collaborate or learn as a group.
“We use it for reading, catching up on homework or whatever I need to do,” said student Octavio Compean.
“Instead of being in a room with no natural light, now there’s natural light all around with all the windows,” said Liam Cabe, another fifth grader.
The addition also added a new gymnasium and an outdoor classroom. The gymnasium also meets all the new requirements for a tornado or storm shelter.
