Police Recover Gun from Backpack at Park Center High School
Brooklyn Park police are investigating an incident in which a gun was found in a student’s backpack at Park Center High School.
According to Brooklyn Park police, the discovery was made by school staff on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
Police said school resource officers responded shortly after 1:50 p.m. to assist school staff. A school resource officer was on duty at the school at the time of the incident, police said.
“School staff located a handgun in a student’s backpack, which was immediately secured,” police said in a news release.
A student was arrested a short time later without incident.
“There is no known threat to the school,” police said.
Many school resource officers returned to schools last March after the state legislature revised a law concerning the type of police actions they could take.
