Police: Handgun Recovered at Champlin Park High School
A handgun was removed from Champlin Park High School on Monday and a student was arrested without incident, Brooklyn Park police said.
According to police, Brooklyn Park officers received information at about 11:15 a.m. Monday that a student at Champlin Park High School may be in possession of a handgun.
A school resource officer inside the building worked with school staff to locate the student involved, police said. A handgun was located and recovered soon after.
No further details were made available about the incident or why the student had a gun inside the school. It is illegal to knowingly possess a weapon on school property.
The student, identified as a 17-year-old boy, was arrested and booked at the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center.
The incident remains under investigation, police said.
