Police: Brooklyn Center Squad Car Nearly Struck Trying to Stop Parking Lot ‘Spin Outs’
It was a close call for a Brooklyn Center police officer whose squad car was almost struck trying to stop vehicles doing “spin outs” in a strip mall parking lot, police said.
According to Brooklyn Center police, officers responded to a business parking lot near Xerxes Avenue North and Bass Lake Road at around 4:40 a.m. Friday. When police arrived, two vehicles fled, almost striking a Brooklyn Center squad car. Moments later, the fleeing vehicles crashed.
Police say approximately seven juveniles fled the crash scene. One of them, a 14-year-old, was detained and later released to parents.
Police later determined that both vehicles involved were stolen from a nearby apartment complex on Xerxes. One of the vehicles had bullet-hole damage. In addition, officers found damage to five other vehicles parked at the apartment complex lot, police said.
As of Friday afternoon, no additional arrests had been made.
