Plymouth’s Honey & Mackie’s Launches New Flavors for Diwali
A Plymouth ice cream shop is launching new flavors this weekend in honor of Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights.
“We have halwa carrot, we have rice and spice kheer, we have kaju cashew and then we have pistachio, which is a very traditional Festival of Lights flavor,” said Suzanne Varecka, the owner of Honey & Mackie’s.
Diwali is one of India’s biggest holidays, so Honey & Mackie’s wanted to come out with several flavors that are traditionally associated with the Festival of Lights as a way to cater to its diverse clientele.
The Plymouth ice cream shop has done similar holiday-themed product launches for Christmas and Hanukkah.
For anyone who’s not Hindu, Varecka hopes these new flavors can be used as a teaching tool.
“If this is a way to educate people or to bring people together, ask questions about a culture they may not be aware of, or know a lot about, or even to teach their kids about these types of celebrations and other traditions that are in our country, I think that’s awesome,” Varecka said.
The Diwali Festival Four Pack launches Oct. 14. It costs $26 for the four pints. You can also buy the ice cream individually at $7.25 apiece.
The following weekend, Honey & Mackie’s will offer the new flavors in scoops.
Diwali begins Oct. 24.
