Plymouth Seniors Take Exercise to the Balcony
The seniors who live at Trillium Woods are a very active community. Before the novel coronavirus prompted stay-at-home orders and isolation, the staff say more than 90 percent of seniors participated in physical fitness programs and classes regularly. So, staff had to get creative to get seniors moving and interacting with one another at safe distances.
This week, Trillium Woods staff organized balcony exercises for residents twice a week. Fitness instructors will stand in each alcove of balconies and lead the seniors in exercises with music and megaphones. Since every apartment has a balcony, every senior has an opportunity to participate.
“They are really enjoying a chance to get outside as well as the live instruction and seeing their friends,” said fitness center manager Colleen O’Neill. “They are loving it and we are enjoying it too. We are so glad to see their faces.”
