Plymouth Sees Unusual Uptick in Smash-and-Grab Thefts
Plymouth police are reminding residents to remove valuables from cars parked outside.
The warning comes after four smash-and-grab thefts that occurred May 3.
“There’s really no rhyme or reason of exactly where these things happen,” said Plymouth Police Chief Erik Fadden. “But in a city our size, even to have four of them in one night is pretty unusual.”
A couple of the cases happened in a business parking lot near I-494 and County Road 6. Fadden said another happened outside an apartment complex. He said cases also tend to rise as the weather warms up.
“We put out that saying, ‘follow your 9 p.m. routine too.’ At the end of the day before you go to bed at night, just doublecheck your cars are locked, your valuables are out of your car, out of line of sight,” encouraged Fadden.
In the last 24 hours, Plymouth has had four vehicles broken into. Suspects smash out windows and take belongings quickly and leave. Double check your cars to ensure all valuables are out, including keys, garage door openers, & anything you don’t want them to have.

Plymouth police say thieves have stolen keys, garage door openers and other valuables.
“If your car is locked and there is nothing seen inside the car, those people are going to walk to the next car,” said Fadden. “They’re not going to take the time to break in and just hope that there is something there.”
