Plymouth Seeks Applicants for Destination Marketing Board
Plymouth has a new organization devoted to bringing tourists and visitors to the city.
The city’s destination marketing organization drives future visitors to the city’s hotels and restaurants.
“We don’t want them to leave and go to another city, we want them to support our businesses so we don’t lose our businesses, and we want them to stay in our hotels, dine at our restaurants,” said Katie Langland, destination marketing coordinator for Plymouth. “I think the city of Plymouth has a lot of things to offer that a lot of people don’t know about, so it will be an exciting opportunity to kind of showcase what Plymouth has to offer.”
It also promotes the city as a destination for events like hockey tournaments and concerts at the Hilde Performance Center.
The city is starting a new advisory board for the marketing organization.
The Plymouth City Council will appoint four members to the board. Applications are open to anyone at least 21 year old that is affiliated with tourism or hospitality industries.
Langland said those board members will help drive the city’s marketing plans.
“They’re the experts,” Langland said. “Our restaurants, our hotels, they’re the experts that know who’s coming in to Plymouth, who’s staying at our hotels, who’s dining in our restaurants. So they’re going to be able to say, this is what we already have, these are the people we want to see here. And they’re going to be able to help guide our marketing efforts.”
Four members on the advisory board will represent businesses in the city, while three other seats will be occupied by city staff members.
According to Langland, more tourists could mean more places for residents to eat.
“What that can lead to is bringing in more restaurants,” she said. “So a lot of residents want to see more restaurants in the city of Plymouth. They want to see more things to do. And so if we bring people in and there’s more demand, then that can just increase more restaurant owners wanting to develop here.”
