Plymouth Police Announce Second Arrest, Seek Third Suspect in Fatal Shooting of Teen
**This story has been updated from its original publishing Thursday afternoon**
Plymouth police announced Friday morning that a second suspect in Monday’s fatal shooting of a teenager has turned himself in to police.
That suspect, Augustus Sirleaf, 19, of Plymouth, was arrested Thursday evening and booked at the Hennepin County Jail for probable cause murder.
Police continue to seek a third suspect in the case – Hans Madave, 19, of New Hope.
On Thursday, Plymouth police held a press conference to seek the public’s help in finding two of three suspects for Monday evening’s fatal shooting of 17-year-old Yaseen Johnson of Albertville. Police say the shooting occurred in the parking lot of the Four Seasons Estates apartments located just west of Highway 169.
Plymouth police also announced the arrest of an 18-year-old Golden Valley man connected to the shooting. Jail records show the teen was released from custody Friday afternoon after his 36-hour hold expired. He could still be criminally charged at a later date.
According to the Hennepin County Medical examiner’s office, Johnson died of multiple gunshot wounds. Plymouth police say they have yet to locate the weapon used in the homicide. A motive for the shooting remains unclear, but police don’t believe the shooting was random.
“The investigation has been very time intensive and all of our staff have been working around the clock since Monday evening to follow up on leads, tips, and uncover more details as to why this tragedy actually occurred,” said Plymouth Public Safety Director Erik Fadden.
Officers found Johnson fatally shot in a vehicle shortly before 6 p.m. Monday in the parking lot near the Four Seasons Estates apartments. Witness reports led police to believe there were at least two individuals who fled the scene. Fadden said officers were nearby at the time they began receiving calls about the shooting.
Police say if you see Madave, call 911 and don’t approach him. Tips can also be made to Plymouth’s tip line at 763-509-5177.
Johnson was a student at Rogers High School.
“Yaseen’s death is tragic and is not something that I or any of our staff will ever forget,” said Fadden. “I want to send our deepest condolences to Yaseen’s family.”
