Plymouth Nonprofit Sees Significant Need for Volunteers
Resale Select, the thrift store at Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners in Plymouth, runs on volunteers like Ellie Singer.
“While I’m here, I do a lot of the pricing,” she said.
For eight years, she’s been volunteering at Interfaith. The people she’s met and the relationships she’s built keep her coming back.
“It is a great group of people — very social, very friendly, very committed to the mission,” she said.
The store, which sells donated clothes, housewares and other personal items, helps to support the other social programs at Interfaith.
Those other programs include a food shelf, family and financial assistance, as well housing and employment assistance.
That mission also brings Singer back to the store.
“I remember back in the day when I grew up you really helped your direct neighbors,” Singer said. “But our neighborhood is so large now and there’s such a big need, so I get just satisfaction that I am helping to close the gap.”
She volunteers three or four days a week. But, one person can only do so much.
“It’s to the tune of about 1,000 physical volunteers or more that Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners needs every year,” said Deb Lande, marketing and communications director at Interfaith.
The organization is looking for new volunteers. They’d have the opportunity to help out, and the chance to add a dress or two to their closet on the cheap.
“One of the benefits of a volunteer is that 30 percent off everything in the store,” Singer said. “So don’t get me wrong, that’s a nice little perk to have.”
