Plymouth Middle School Theater Presents ‘The Mind of a Middle Schooler’
Plymouth Middle School students are putting on a musical revue that focuses on the often-misunderstood inner monologue of middle school teens.
“The Mind of a Middle Schooler” includes songs compiled from different musicals inspired by those challenging early teen years.
Students in the show say audiences will experience laughter, but also serious subjects.
“When you think about it and listen to the words and stuff, it does really show what I’d be thinking about or other kids,” said Plymouth Middle School student Adella Jonson. “Because it’s kind of like, it’s just like everything is weird right now, because we’re middle schoolers and it’s not like ‘yeah, you don’t really know anything right now.'”
Songs from various musicals include “I Won’t Say I’m in Love” from “Hercules,” “If Only You Would Listen” from “School of Rock” and “No One is Alone” from “Into the Woods.”
The show not only aims to inspire, it’s also a fundraiser for a wide range of activities outside the Plymouth Middle School theater program.
“They are raising money for activities at their school that they don’t participate in: the track program, they’re hoping to start a debate club, they are also hoping to get soccer equipment, they are raising money for school supplies for some of the academic classes, and they’re also putting money toward theater programs at this high school, Armstrong and also Cooper High School,” said Nina Jonson, director of the revue.
There are a total of four performances, all held at the Armstrong High School auditorium. Performances run tonight, May 30, at 7 p.m.; Friday, May 31, at 7 p.m.; and Saturday, June 1, at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
There is no set admission to the show, but attendees are encouraged to provide a donation of at least $5 to help with the fundraising goals.
