Plymouth Ice Center Gets Bright, LED Lights
The Plymouth Ice Center has all new LED lights, which produce brighter, whiter lights than the fluorescent tubes. It took more than a month to replace more than one thousand lights at the rink.
“Our ice is the highlight of why people are here,” said Erik Halverson, Plymouth Ice Center manager. “That’s what we want to highlight for people and that’s what the lights do for us.”
Halverson says people playing in the rink have remarked on the difference in the lighting.
The cost of the project is more than $160,000, but the lights should save money and energy in the long run.
“It’s definitely much, much brighter for players to see the puck coming and not have the shadows,” said Jason Pawelsky with EAG-LED Global Lights. “ The fans will have a better experience not having the yellow, dingy light.”
More improvements are scheduled for 2020 at the Plymouth Ice Center. Next year, there will be renovations coming to Rink B with new dasher boards. The rinks will also be repainted.
